FIN 201 Unit 2

Independent project

 (Promotional/Comedy Video)

This video will be a hilarious cooking show gone wrong, where an overly confident (but clueless) me attempts to prepare a dish, only for chaos to unfold. The tone will be lighthearted and slapstick, inspired by classic cooking shows mixed with absurd humor. Think exaggerated reactions, ridiculous cooking “hacks” that backfire, and a final dish that is barely edible.

The video will incorporate split screen effects for comedic before and after—perhaps the chef imagines themselves as a five-star professional, only for reality to be far worse. Motion graphics will be used for dramatic on-screen text (e.g., “Gourmet Disaster in Progress!”), exaggerated ingredient measurements (“A splash of milk” = an entire bottle), and fake cooking tips. The video will run 1.5 to 3 minutes, with a lively soundtrack and sound effects like sizzling gone wrong, cartoonish chopping sounds, and dramatic gasps from an off-screen audience.

Part 2 storyboard

My project has 2 concepts under 1 storyboard, the main opening is a intro of the food or drink i will make which will then lead to the ingredients and items needed to prep and make said dish or drink. from there as i make the food there will be planned or unplanned chaos ie, spilling, overdosing ingredients and or blender disaster. after that the food will be done and i force myself to taste the masterful nutritious food or drink

Gourmet Disaster: A Cooking Show Gone Wrong

Concept + Format + Timeline

CONCEPT & FORMAT

This video will be a comedic take on a cooking show where an overly confident but completely clueless chef (played by me) attempts to create a dish, only for absolute chaos to unfold. The tone is lighthearted and slapstick, inspired by classic cooking shows mixed with absurd humor. The humor will stem from exaggerated reactions, ridiculous cooking “hacks” that fail spectacularly, and a final dish that is barely edible.

Key Elements:

  • Split-screen effects: A “dream” version of the chef imagining professional success vs. the reality of utter disaster.
  • Motion graphics: Dramatic on-screen text (e.g., “Gourmet Disaster in Progress!”), absurd ingredient measurements (“A pinch of salt” = a whole bag), and fake cooking tips.
  • Sound design: A lively soundtrack with exaggerated sound effects like cartoonish chopping, disastrous sizzling, and over-the-top gasps from an off-screen audience.
  • Visual Style: Quick cuts, slow-motion for dramatic reactions, zoom-ins on disasters, and playful use of on-screen elements.

Final Product:
A 1.5 to 3-minute video, edited with a high-energy style, featuring humorous failures and a chaotic yet entertaining cooking experience.

The intent of this project is a beginner chef wanting to try to be like the pros, with his sarcasm and wanna be humor and dullness, he makes his breakfast for the audience to not try at home. the whole thing is a 1 take masterpiece with purposely attempted dull edits that seem to be professional. the main video is 1 take and with editing i amplified sound and cut verbal mistakes, i gathered the ingredients needed and told myself i have to finish this and eat it. the bulk of the project took place in editing, i had to cut, order, edit the sound and keyframe elements in aswell as time the split screen and motion effects. finding the few extra sounds was another task as finding sounds for a want to be cooking pro is not easy. all said and done it came out perfect for me, the light humor works well and the sound effects add that little kick to it. i choose to keep my dog(Bondi “bond-eye” like the beach) as it added that feel of want to be pro chef but in a non pro environment. the whole idea is that he or me is a want to be pro in a non pro environment, the subtle dull sarcasm and humor adds to that aswell as the ingredients like the entire egg shell and all and the chili powder as those are not used in protein shakes. overall it came out good. i would have done a retake with more humor but i did not have time to as i had a death in my family.

FIN 201 Unit 1

here is my tech ex 01

as this is my first time ever working with premier pro i learned some key ponts to editing, clipping, adding and cutting sound aswell as adding transistions between clips.

Tech EX 2

in this exercise we went about how to approach editing using greenscreens. i learned how to use the ultra key effect and how to adjust the color of the foreground to match the chosen background/video.

Tech ex 3 sound edit

in this excercise you master the skills of cutting, editing and repeating audio, you learn how to adjust the gain and add cool effects to your sound clip like making it sound like your in an echo chamber or grandmas house.

Tech Ex 04 Split screen edit

in this excercise you hone the skills of keyframing your clips, text and graphics to appear as a split screen ands come in with an animation. the hardest thing to learn with this is to master where and when you want your animations to start and stop aswell as timing

Project 1 Green screen

in this project we dived in to the concept of the greenscreen and learned how to chroma key the green out to overlay a seperate video. how i made this is i took some green poster board cutouts and taped them the thew walls and to get the darkness i took the luminosity and brightness right down. overall im prod of the results and i could have done a bit better with the sound. throught the term i will learn more and learn more tricks to streamline the overall process

Tech EX 05

in this exercise you learn how to use the masking tool to change or apply an effect to a certain object or subject in your video. you want to make sure the mask is tight to the object but with feathering you can adjust how strong or weak the mask is.

Project 2 Split Screen

Tech Ex 6/7

in this exercise you learn how to take images from a stop motion shoot and time them to make it match your song or desired length and aswell as time your extra sounds at the right spots.

Project 3 Stop Motion

Tech ex 08

in this exercise you go over how to create cool 3d graphics to then use in your premier pro project, you learn how to add them, adjust the angles and keyframe each graphic maneuver and then render and export.

Motion Graphics Mini Project

Tech Ex 9

in this exercise you go over all the ways you can edit and adapt audio in premire pro. from the basic enhancing to customizing your audio effects to really hone it in and make it yours. you can dehess and dehumm to completely removing bg humms and equalizing all clips to max out at -12.
